Here’s a fun and inspiring activity you can do with your kids or students: create an “I CAN DO IT!” jar inspired by Petunia the Perfectionist!
Follow these simple steps:
- Find a jar or container (examples: a mason jar, a Tupperware container, or a cardboard box!)
- Decorate it! Now’s your chance to get creative and have some fun!
- Tear up small sheets of paper (or use Post-its) and write down all of the things you learned how to do this year.
- Put your notes in your jar.
- Share with your family or classmates & celebrate all the things you learned to do over the year!
-
Discuss whether those things were easy or challenging to learn, and if you made mistakes while learning how to do them. Did those mistakes contribute to your learning? If so, how?
Here’s a little behind the inspiration for the “I Can Do It” jar:
In Petunia the Perfectionist, Petunia wants to do everything perfectly, but because she’s so afraid to make a mistake, she isn’t as creative as she could be & she misses out on lots of fun things. Her mom tells her that mistakes help us learn and grow, but Petunia isn’t convinced — ’til she makes a mistake that inspires everyone, including herself!
It’s OKAY to make mistakes because it means we’re trying new things, learning and growing. If we mess up, who cares? Try again! That’s how we learn!
Have so much fun making your “I Can Do It” jar. Make sure you keep a list of all the things you learn how to do in the New Year so you can make another jar for 2025, and so on!
