When I do author visits with second and third graders, after we read Petunia the Perfectionist, we play a game called Growth Mindset, or Fixed Mindset? I ask the kids to give me a thumbs-up if they think the statement I’ve just made is a Growth Mindset statement (i.e. “With practice, I’ll get better at this”), or a thumbs down if the statement reflects a Fixed Mindset (i.e. “I’ll never get better at this”).
I believe it’s so important to help kids understand that making mistakes is a normal part of learning, growing, and reaching their goals.
