Feelings Forecast Printable, coming your way!
Some days feel sunny and light. Others feel stormy, heavy, or somewhere in between. But for kids, those feelings can be hard to name, let alone explain.
That’s where this simple shift makes all the difference:
👉 What if feelings felt like weather?
When we give children a visual, relatable way to describe emotions, everything opens up.
Because saying “I feel stormy today” is often easier than “I feel overwhelmed and frustrated.”

This activity invites kids to become “weather reporters” for their emotions—a playful and powerful way to build emotional awareness.
Using simple weather symbols like:
- ☀️ Sunny → happy, calm, excited
- ☁️ Cloudy → low energy
- 🌧️ Rainy → sad, tired
Kids can talk about their feelings in a way that feels fun and safe.
Why This Works (And Why Kids Love It)
Connecting emotions to weather helps kids:
- Build emotional vocabulary
- Express feelings without pressure
- Recognize patterns in their moods
- Feel seen, understood, and supported
In fact, visual tools like this are widely used in SEL because they make abstract emotions easier to understand and talk about.
And best of all? There’s no right or wrong answer. Every child’s “forecast” is their own.
How to Use the Feelings Forecast
You can use this printable in so many ways:
Morning Check-In: Start the day by asking: “What’s your forecast today?”
Dinner Table Conversations: Each family member shares their “weather” for the day.
Classroom or Counseling Tool: Use during morning meeting, calm-down time, transitions, reflection activities, as a worksheet for those who finish schoolwork early
Creative Extension: Have kids draw their own weather symbols, create a weekly forecast, build a “weather kit” (coping strategies for stormy days), etc. Activities like this encourage kids to reflect on emotions and connect them to actions that help them feel better.
A Natural Tie-In to My Books
If you’re familiar with my stories, you know this is at the heart of everything I write.
- The Only Me → celebrating identity and uniqueness
- Stella’s Brave Voice → expressing feelings with courage
- Petunia the Perfectionist → navigating mistakes and big emotions
- Saturdays with Gramps → processing grief and love
- Dash Makes a Splash → belonging, inclusion, friendship & self-worth (with a water cycle/STEM tie-in)
A Gentle Reminder
Feelings change—just like the weather. Storms pass, clouds shift, and the sun always returns. When we give kids the tools to understand that, we’re giving them skills that will help them through life.
